Sail Canada Fundamental Course - Online

The Sail Canada Fundamental Course is required for all new instructors and is the theory component of becoming a Sail Canada Instructor. The Fundamental Course is entirely classroom based, and the training does not expire. This Fundamental Course will be hosted virtually. This course is intended for those who cannot attend the in-person course due to schedule conflicts or travel logistics.

 

The course is scheduled to take place online from 7pm to 9pm on the evenings of April 30, May 2, 7, 9 and 14.

Coach Boat Safety Course

This course is a prerequisite for instructors of all levels. This course will remain valid for 5 years. It covers the basics of safe coach boat operating, including: equipment, maneuvering, setting marks, and rescues. This course will include a theory test as well as on-water practice. Candidates will be provided with resources to review prior to attending.


The in-person portion of this course will take place the weekend of May 11-12 from 9am to 5pm at the Dartmouth Yacht Club.

CANSail 1&2 Technical Clinic

This Clinic, also known as the 1&2 Instructor Course, is for those instructors who wish to teach sailors at the CANSail 1&2 levels. It includes land and water-based sessions to cover both technical and practical coaching skills. This clinic is the final step to becoming a trained CANSail 1&2 Instructor, meaning all prerequisites must be completed prior to attending. These prerequisites are: CANSail 4 student level, Fundamental Course, Coach Boat Safety, Intermediate/Standard Level First Aid, Safe Sport Training, Pleasure Craft Operator's Card, and a Police Check (if older than 17).


The course will be held at the Waegwoltic Club over two consecutive weekends: June 15-16 & 22-23, 2024.

Tune Up Weekend

For all NEW Instructors. This weekend is a way to shake off the rust, and refresh your sailing skills prior to attending spring instructor clinics. You'll be team racing, learning important communication skills, and networking with other coaches (former, current, and aspiring) and sailors who just plain love team racing! All candidates must attend the weekend. If you cannot attend because you live out of the province, have an exam or important family commitment you must inform techdirector@sailnovascotia.ca.


This event will take place at the Hubbards Sailing Club on June 8-9, 2024.

The course will be held at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron over two consecutive weekends: April 20-21 & 27-28, 2024.
