Hoist the Sails Spring Social -  Celebrate the 2025 Season & SailGP 26

Join Sail Nova Scotia as we host our "Hoist the Sails Spring Social" - a friendly and fun cocktail reception on Thursday, May 22 at 7pm at Cable Wharf on the Halifax waterfront.

Be there as we celebrate the return of SailGP 2026 to Halifax and the upcoming 2025 sailing and boating season. Members of Canada's NorthStar SailGP team will be present, we'll hold a live auction for the first pair of Premium Tickets for the June 2026 event, you'll hear all about the 2025 club initiatives we are funding with Red Sky funding, and we'll also launch a new Sail Nova Scotia fundraising campaign! Good times guaranteed!

Tune Up Weekend

For all new Instructors! This weekend is a way to shake off the rust, and refresh your sailing skills prior to attending spring instructor clinics. You'll be team racing, learning important communication skills, and networking with other coaches (former, current, and aspiring) and sailors who just plain love team racing! All candidates must attend the weekend. If you cannot attend because you live out of the province, have an exam or important family commitment you must inform techdirector@sailnovascotia.ca.


Any sailors or coaches interested in learning more about team racing are welcome to attend as well!


This event will take place at the Hubbards Sailing Club on May 24-25, 2025.

Sail Canada Fundamental Course - Online

The Sail Canada Fundamental Course is required for all new instructors and is the theory component of becoming a Sail Canada Instructor. The Fundamental Course is entirely classroom based, and the training does not expire. This Fundamental Course will be hosted virtually. This course is intended for those who cannot attend the in-person course due to schedule conflicts or travel logistics.

 

The course is scheduled to take place online from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday & Thursday evenings, for a total of 6 consecutive sessions. The dates of these evenings are: April 22, 24, 29, and May 1, 6, 8.

Coach Boat Safety Course

This course is a prerequisite for instructors of all levels. This course will remain valid for 5 years. It covers the basics of safe coach boat operating, including: equipment, maneuvering, setting marks, and rescues. This course will include a theory test as well as on-water practice. Candidates will be provided with resources to review prior to attending.


The in-person portion of this course will take place the weekend of May 10-11 from 9am to 5pm at the Dartmouth Yacht Club. Candidates need to attend one full day, please register for the day that best suits your schedule (Saturday OR Sunday).

CANSail 1&2 Technical Clinic

This Clinic, also known as the 1&2 Instructor Course, is for those instructors who wish to teach sailors at the CANSail 1&2 levels. It includes land and water-based sessions to cover both technical and practical coaching skills. This clinic is the final step to becoming a trained CANSail 1&2 Instructor, meaning all prerequisites must be completed and sent to techdirector@sailnovascotia.ca prior to attending. These prerequisites are: CANSail 4 student level, Fundamental Course, Coach Boat Safety, Intermediate/Standard Level First Aid, Safe Sport Training, Pleasure Craft Operator's Card, and a Police Check (if older than 17).


The course will be held at the St. Margaret's Sailing Club over two consecutive weekends: June 14-15 & 21-22, 2025.

The course will be held at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron over two consecutive weekends: April 26-27 & May 3-4, 2025.

Sail Canada Race Management Course

Sail Nova Scotia will be offering the Sail Canada Assistant Race Officer and Club Race Officer theory Course in May. These courses will train you to manage and run the racing at your home club. They will be held on Zoom over two days Saturday, May 3 from from 9am - 4pm and Sunday, May 4 from 10am - 3pm. The course will be led by Luke Porter.
